First ever Tourism Awards to recognise leading figures in travel and tourism Industry

For the first time ever in Malta, SKAL Malta, in conjunction with The Malta Financial & Business Times, will be launching the Malta Tourism Awards. The Awards will be taking place on Saturday 28 September, a day after World Tourism Day. A gala night will mark the event.

The venue will be set off against the historical and picturesque landscape of the Three Cities. Prizes will be presented during a gala dinner on the promenade off the recently restored Casino di Venezia, Birgu.

The organisers said the setting "will lend an almost fairytale-like look to the area", complete with marquee and classical music in the background.

The Minister of Tourism Dr Michael Refalo will be guest of honour for the event. Malta’s top personalities and other VIPs will be attending the Awards.

The stage has been set for an event that will recognise Malta’s leading figures in the tourism industry with prestigious awards.

These include Tourism and Travel personality of the Year, Food and Beverage Suppliers, Media Promotion, Catering outlets and Activities, Entertainment and interest, Incoming and Outgoing Tourism, Transport, Accommodation, and Academic and professional.

The nominations for each award have been screened by an independent board and winners will be announced during the Gala night.

Skal Malta is hoping that the Awards will become a major yearly appointment. Skal Malta is an organisation that brings together all sectors of the travel industry and recognises professionalism and operators that contribute towards the success of the industry.

At least 17,000 people have their income directly related to tourism and many more have their living indirectly affected by it. The Awards will be recognising Malta’s top entities in the industry and will certainly serve to encourage better service in the all sectors of the industry.

Booking for the Gala night are available from Skal Malta or The Malta Financial and Business Times. For further information please phone on 21 382741 and ask for Ms Katia Bleaze.
