Icelandic Foreign Affairs Minister visits Lanstraust Malta

Icelandic Foreign Affairs Minister Halldór Ásgrímsson recently visited Lanstraust Malta at their premises in Sliema. Lanstraust Malta is a fully owned subsidiary of Lánstraust hf., Iceland's foremost credit information bureau and has recently started operations in Malta.

The minister is said to have been impressed with the Lanstraust Malta operation, its procedure regarding data verification, the efficient and professional local staff and expressed his hopes that Lanstraust Malta would be a success in Malta just as Lanstraust hf has been in Iceland.

Addressing the Lanstraust Malta staff, Minister Ásgrímsson commented, "Lanstraust has of course offered its valuable service to Iceland's economy for almost six years now and it has helped us to achieve the financial stability every country and government seeks. A quality information bureau can stimulate growth as it offers creditors the opportunity to make more effective decisions on lending. If you are good as my fellow countrymen tell me you are I'm sure this company will be successful."

He added how there are far more similarities between the two countries than differences and that Icelanders could learn from Malta and vice versa.

Karl Xuereb, General Manager of Lanstraust Malta thanked the Minister for his visit on behalf of all those present. He said, "The combination of Lanstraust's professionalism and expertise and the commitment of Maltese staff on the project will translate into success. The reaction from the business community to date has been positive since we launched our first products on 1 November."
