Baystreet director resigns following conviction

George Muscat, one of the directors of Bay Street and also an owner of Legend Real Estate, has resigned his position as Director of Bay Street Finance plc.
The company announced his resignation stating that "Mr George Muscat has resigned his directorship after having been found guilty by the court of magistrates of arbitrarily exercising pretended rights when he ordered the changing of locks of an establishment in Bay Street Complex."
Our sister newspaper MaltaToday had reported that Mr Muscat was sentenced to three months imprisonment. Mr Muscat, who would not comment on his sentence, has filed an appeal.
George Muscat was condemned by Magistrate Silvio Meli on 3 July for ordering his employees to break into the premises known as ‘Il-Grokk,’ run by Rita Anne Bigeni and Ray Bajada.
In his decision Meli said there were pending disputes, even in court which had not been resolved.
Baystreet directors Christopher Grech and Paul Camilleri were acquitted of the same charges.
The Malta Financial and Business Times contacted Muscat and asked him for his opinion on the court decision but Muscat preferred not to comment.
