Improving efficiency and reducing bureaucracy in the public sector

Government intends making the civil service more efficient and less bureaucratic, the Parliamentary Secretary within the Finance ministry responsible for the self employed, Edwin Vassallo, said yesterday. Vassallo met representatives of the constituted bodies to discuss the White Paper on the reform of the public service.
"Now is the time for entrepreneurs to suggest change," Vassallo said.
Now is the time to discuss with the Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Industry, GRTU and Malta Institute of Management, he insisted, when announcing that talks would be carried out during several meetings to be convened over the coming months.
"The White Paper is of particular interest for those in business because the public service is their largest service provider. It is for this reason that representative of the business community will be meeting with government to discuss proposals to make the Civil Service more efficient, less bureaucratic, and more motivated to assist those that require its help."
