Another company to make discounted computer offer
By Julian Manduca

The Ministry for Information Technology has told The Malta Financial and Business Times that further to the offer to be made by HP computers to provide affordable computers to students, “next week another company will be launching similar initiatives”.
The ministry told this newspaper that besides the new offer “another two huge players have approached Government to run similar initiatives”.
Austin Gatt’s ministry said the offers showed “that serious players recognise the importance of such initiatives and in line with their corporate social responsibilities strive to ensure that computer technologies are not only available for those who have above-average income streams.”

The Ministry repeated that it is “open to any reputable company who wants to make that extra effort to make technology more accessible and affordable to our citizens.”
The plans have irked the GRTU, which sees the plans as a sort of ‘bulk-buying’ that will negatively impact the business of Maltese importers and traders.
HP is offering all Maltese students the chance to buy one of three latest generation computers at unprecedented prices and with reasonable repayment terms with the help of Bank of Valletta.
