Portomaso to sponsor powerboat Grand Prix
Portomaso, one of Europe’s finest harbour developments, has been confirmed as the new title sponsor of the opening two rounds of the 2005 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship, taking place in Malta on 7and 8 May.
The Portomaso Grand Prix of Malta will be comprised of two races, an endurance event on Saturday which circumnavigates the coastline, and a shorter race on Sunday utilising a tighter circuit that keeps close to the shoreline. Both races will be visible to spectators across the Island as the adrenaline-charged pilots compete in fast, competitive action for the first points of the 2005 Powerboat P1 season.
The sponsorship deal represents a significant financial commitment to one of Europe’s most spectacular and fastest growing motor sports that provides Portomaso with a platform from which to reinforce Malta’s maritime traditions, while also demonstrating to a global audience that Malta is fast becoming a lifestyle destination to rival the best in Europe.
Portomaso is representative of cutting edge of property development in Malta and has served as a benchmark for future high-quality projects. The development occupies 1.6 kilometres of waterfront and a 31 acre site comprising a 110 berth marina, luxury apartments, the 5-star Hilton Malta hotel, a beach club, health and leisure centre, office tower, conference centre and a selection of shops and restaurants.
Portomaso Chief Executive Officer George Fenech comments, “This sponsorship is in line with the company‚s policy of encouraging initiatives that bring the name of Malta to the fore and to be associated with a powerful, exciting and innovative sport.
