Fewer passengers cross the channel

During the second quarter of 2005, 899,959 passengers used the Malta-Gozo ferries to cross from one island to the other; a decrease of 27,624 passengers or 3.0 per cent over the same period the year before. The total number of passenger vehicles carried by the ferries decreased by 13,225 to 220,910 a decrease of 5.7 per cent over the corresponding period in 2004. In the quarter under review, 4,472 trips were made between Malta and Gozo; a drop of 32 or 0.7 per cent over the same period the year before.
The M.V.Malita carried 327,030 passengers or 36.3 per cent of the total passengers in this period. The other two main Gozo Channel ferries M.V. Gaudos and M.V. Ta' Pinu carried 304,601 and 268,328 passengers respectively.
