Double-Take business continuity solution launched in Malta

A new technological solution has been launched in Malta to ensure the continuity of business in the event a disaster such as computer server crashes, hardware failures, floods, fire, theft or other such incidents, allowing a restart of operations possibly within a matter of minutes and with a minimum loss of data.
Shireburn Co Ltd and Sunbelt Software have launched the Double-Take solution in a seminar at Le Meridien St. Julian’s on May 9, which was attended by over 100 local decision makers, IT Managers, systems administrators, and people responsible for e-security.
John de Giorgio, Managing Director of Shireburn, Double-Take partners in Malta, illustrated the vulnerability of data with recent news from the Maltese media: “The bottom line is that we have to maintain the availability of our IT systems. While there is a cost in doing so there is also a cost in not doing so, in the form of lost sales, a negative impact on customer services and reputation. Double-Take ensures business continuity when disaster strikes you or near your business premises.”
Participants were also addressed by Peter Doens, Business Development Manager - Double-Take, while Harry Ajula and Wouter Vancoppenolle, Sunbelt Pre-Sales Engineers, delivered a live demonstration of the product.
As part of the official launch of Double-Take in Malta, Sunbelt Software and Shireburn have reached an agreement with the Ministry for Investment, Industry & IT to provide a number of licenses and the maintenance for the software for usage within the Maltese Government infrastructure through MITTS on a free of charge basis.
Double-Take protects data and applications running on Microsoft Windows servers by replicating in real-time and protecting mission-critical data that resides throughout an enterprise to one or more backup servers. It combines continuous real-time backup and automatic failover capabilities for disaster recovery, high availability, and centralized backup.
In the event of a server becoming unavailable, the backup server can take over the functions of the production server either fully automatically or after administrator confirmation of the fail-over, allowing the business to continue to function and ensuring legal responsibilities for business continuity.
Double-Take is not just a data backup solution but also provides immediate access to the applications that are required to run that data. Double-Take is application agnostic and operates with all and every application that runs on a Windows server including but not limited to MS-SQL, mySQL, Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes etc.
