Euro-Label for e-Commerce transactions launched in Malta

Following the announcement of the various measures aimed to incentive SMEs and sole traders to go for e-Commerce, Minister for Industry, Investments and IT Austin Gatt recently announced the set-up of the Euro-Label, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce which provided the structure and mechanism that facilitates e-Commerce.
The main aim of this scheme was to instil confidence in the electronic commerce around Europe. This should also increase the take-up of e-Commerce.
In his speech, Gatt stressed the importance of the Euro-Label both for the businesses and for the clients as it provided more security and re-assurance that the e-commerce facility they had was up to standard and secure.
He referred to the fact that this Euro-Label is a European wide certificate and Malta was the seventh European country to have this certification in place.
He said that the initiative launched this week should increase the take up of e-Commerce both from the businesses side and also from the point of view of the clients.
On his part, Tancred Tabone, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise, expressed his satisfaction that the Chamber had chosen to become the exclusive partner of this initiative.
He added that this was in line with the aim of the Chamber to enhance the confidence between those who do business.
Tabone also expressed the need to have more structures which would ensure the increase of more business transactions.
He said that the Chamber of Commerce had already registered 10 organisations which were offering their services on line and whose service had been certified up to the requirements established to have the trust mark.
