WasteServ donates energy produced by Sant’ Antnin Waste Treatment Plant to Razzett tal-Hbiberija

WasteServ will be donating surplus heat energy produced by the Sant’ Antnin Waste Treatment Plant in Marsascala to Razzett tal-Hbiberija – a charity organisation situated adjacent to the plant. The philanthropic organisation will be saving around €12,000 per annum through WasteServ’s initiative, and will be directing the funds towards Razzett’s disability services.
“Razzett tal-Hbiberija would like to show its appreciation to Wasteserv for this support which will help us no end in saving on energy bills,” said Mark Sultana, General Manager at Razzett tal-Hbiberija. “Wasteserv and Razzett tal-Hbiberija might seem to be different organisations but we have common grounds. We both exist to improve the quality of life of society. We also both treasure the value of reducing waste. Being a charitable organisation, Razzett tal-Hbiberija strives to be as cost efficient as possible in order to achieve the best results with the limited funding it has.”
Sant’ Antnin will be producing energy through the treatment of the Municipal Solid Waste resulting from households after they start separating dry recyclables by use of the Bring-In Sites and the additional weekly door-to-door waste collection system to start in April. This practice shall recover clean dry waste fractions (Plastic, Cardboard, Paper, Metal & Glass) for recycling, and then will extract energy from the wet and soiled waste fractions before producing compost.
“WasteServ’s initiative in favour of Razzett tal-Hbiberija is just an additional way of showing concern about the Maltese community,” said Ing. Vince Magri, Chief Executive Officer, WasteServ Malta Ltd. “We hope to be able to extend this type of support to other organisations, once renewable energy increasingly becomes part and parcel of WasteServ’s remit.”
