Energy crisis pushes up price of local milk

As of last Friday, the price of a one litre Benna milk carton has increased by seven Euro cents, that is from sixty-five to seventy-two euro cents, Malta Dairy Products (MDP) confirmed.
In a press statement, a spokesperson for MDP blamed the increment on the increase of price of raw materials, resulting from the energy crisis being faced by the global market.
“The last six months have seen further significant increases in the global market prices of the raw materials used in the production of animal balanced feeds as well as record oil prices. Moreover, further price increases have also been experienced in the other major prime cost components ranging from food ingredients to packaging material,” he said in a press statement.
“As a consequence, Malta Dairy Products Limited is again being faced with an enormous increase at its expense when purchasing these raw materials that it uses in the production of its fresh milk and other milk products.” he added.
While committing itself to keep such increases as low as possible, MDP advised its customers that prices of yogurt and fresh ricotta have not been affected.
“The Company has always been and will remain fully committed to continue offering fresh, quality products to the local market at reasonable prices,” the spokesperson concluded.
